Rimmel Renew Sheer and Shine Lipstick Review

image

Hello my little buttons!

In the summer I love tinted lip balms and sheer lipstick, well I love them all year round really, but especially in the summer! They’re a great way to keep your lips moisturised with a pop of colour,  they’re quick and easy to apply too, the ultimate lazy lip colour.

When I saw rimmel had released Renew Sheen and Shine lipstick I just had to pick one up. On the boots website they’re described as:

“Rimmel London Moisture Renew Sheer & Shine Lipstick, a moisturising lipstick with a translucent, luminous, vitamin-enriched colour.
This gloss-in-a-stick moisturises lips, giving a radiant touch of juicy colour and energising shine.
Added SPF 20 helps protect your luscious lips from the harmful effects of the sun.”

Sounds right up my alley! They are priced at £6.49 and currently Boots are doing buy one rimmel product get another half price. It is avalible in 6 shades, I ordered mine online and went for the bright pink shade “pink rules.” I tend to go for calmer shades but was interested in how pigmented and “luminous” a brighter sheer lipstick would look so I stepped out of my comfort zone. The packaging is so cute, the bright pink see through lid almost glows and against the silver base it’s visually appealing.

I was not expecting the pigmentation and colour this lipstick gives off!!! Here’s a swatch on the back of my hand, it stained after I wiped it off too which I was pleased at as I love products that stain. It means even if I don’t have time to reapply my lipstick they’ll still be some colour there.

When applied on the lips it felt slick, smooth and balmy, the colour pay off is crazy, really bright and very noticable. I was worried it would slip about and stray onto my face and teeth but I was suprised after application when it stayed put. As I’m not a really bright lipstick person I was still very aware it was on my lips which wasn’t the best feeling but is definatly an issue within myself lol. Here is what the lipstick looked like on.

As you can see for a sheer lipstick it’s not overly sheer. One thing I found rather annoying was trying to get the line neat and tidy around my lips, it was impossible, where it is so glossy and balmy it wasn’t playing the game!! I don’t think it would be hugely noticable to the average person but it felt very noticable to me.

I think people will either love or hate this product, on the plus side it’s bright and summery, colourful, so comfy on the lips and it still does have a ‘sheer’ look to it and leaves an awesome stain. On the downsides you still need a mirror to apply it even though it’s technically a tinted lip balm, you cant do a nice crisp lip line with it and because it’s sheer it’s more patchy and wears off ever so slightly patchy through the day. I will continue to use this product as do like the colour pay off and it leaves lips feeling soft and hydrated but I’m finding it hard to decide how much I actually like it, I think I can see both the pros and cons and hopefully over time i can make a full on decision!! I’d love to hear in the comments below what you think of this product?!

Burts Bees Matte Lip Crayon and Lipgloss

image

Hello my little buttons!

Here’s my review of Burts Bees Matte Lip Crayon in the shade ‘Hawiaiian Smolder’ as well as a lip gloss in the shade ‘Spring Splender.’ The Crayons are priced at £8.99 and avalible in 6 shades, the Lipgloss is also £8.99 and avalible in 12 shades. The packaging is adorable, I love how a bee hive pattern has been incorporated into the lids. The formula of the crayon is pigmented, smooth and feels comfy to wear, very creamy like a lip balm. The quality of the product really speak for itself, the colour lasts for ages, it doesn’t bleed out all over your face and unlike most lip Crayons after an hour or so of wear it doesn’t bunch up on the lips or leave that dreaded ‘lip linner’ ring around your mouth. The colour sinks into your lips gradually which is a lot more flattering and natural looking! The colour itself is pretty and perfect for spring, it would also look great on nearly all skin tones. I usually feel a bit self contious wearing bright colours on my lips incase they get on my teeth but I didn’t get that feeling at all with this lip crayon, it stayed nicely in place where I wanted it to. Another bonus of the lip crayon is how handy it is to pop in your handbag and use on the go. It also contains 100% natural ingredients, some of which are very nourishing such as shea butter and kendi oil which is great as I know my lips won’t become dried out and sore. It would say it’s fairly matte but there is still a slight shine, although i don’t mind this it’s almost as if a matte lipstick and a lip balm had a baby! I really enjoyed this product and had to hold myself back from buying all the colours. Pigmented comfy colour with lip balm properties, perfection! In my eyes these are a total win, I would recommend to anyone and everyone. Here are the swatches of the Crayon and Lipgloss:

Now onto the Lipgloss! It does have a slight pearl shimmer to it but doesn’t massively transfer onto the lips, it can potentially be seen close up in natural light if you were really looking for it but you won’t look like a disco ball in the slightest. The formula is shiney and slick, it feels more balmy than sticky which is a big thumbs up in my book I hate super sticky lipglosses! It contains 100% natural products and has a big boost of natural oils to leave your lips feeling hydrated and nourished as well as super glossy. It has a nice wash of colour that would look good over most lipsticks but also can stand on its own as a subtle sheen balmy product. It lasts fairly well as far as lipglosses go so I was pleased with this product too, it’s great to throw in my handbag if I need a light, pop of colour or if my lips are sore when im out and about. I really love that these products are helping my lips not hurting them, I have noticed my lips haven’t been getting as sore and peely even after spending all day out in the cold.

I think by now you can tell how much I love these little beauties!!! Here’s a few photos of how the colours can look in different lights on the lips!

Some of my favourite lip products, only £1 each!

Hello my little buttons!

Thought I’d share with you some of my favourite cheapy lip products! Firstly my favourite lipliners!

They’re by a company called Essence! Available in Wilko Stores or at http://www.wilko.com these babies are £1 each and come in a bunch of colours. Here are a couple I love! They are sooo creamy and smooth they feel lovely on the lips. They’re long lasting and fairly smudge proof. I tend to wear them all over the lips as the colours are so pretty and they last so well. Best lip liners ever.

I’ve mentioned this little lippie before, Makeup Gallery at Poundland.i have colour 06 natural pink. I can’t vouch for the whole range but this colour in particular is gorgeous, a real pretty nudie pink. Lasts a good couple of hours and leaves a light stain which I love in lipsticks. Feels similar to a tinted balm but a bit creamier.

A recent find, Freedom Makeup London http://www.freedommakeuplondon.com these are also only £1! Really nice formula glides on the lips, doesn’t stick to my dry bits so started carrying them in my bag as they’re just so convenient!  The top shade is pink lust the bottom is whispers. They last well and again leave a slight stain. A new summer fave for sure. They also come in tonnes of colours there’s one for everyone!

Hope you liked this post, follow me for loads more like it! xxx

Maybelline Matte Lipsticks

hello my little buttons!

Here’s a quick review on some of my all time favourite lipsticks. These were sent to me by my lovely American friend after I told her I couldn’t find a comfy matte formula lipstick. Matte lips are everywhere, with every brand creating their own matte/velvet lip products. I have tried sooo many this year I had nearly given up. I tend to be fairly lazy with lip products, I enjoy tinted balms, stains and nudes that are fairly easy to top up through the day. The ones I have tried are either super drying, as in I could be lost in the saharah and have more hydration in my lips, or when they fade, which granted does take ages, just look patchy and awful. For some people this is not a problem and will happily touch up for that bold beautiful lip. Me however, it’s just not realistic. Until I tried these, I have never in my life found such a wonderful formula. It’s smooth and creamy, not so creamy it slides everywhere but just enough to make application easy and it to feel gorgeous on the lips, as well as gliding over any dry patches. They smell divine, and last for hours even after eating and drinking. I didn’t believe it till I tried it, every colour is on my makeup list for the next time I go to the USA.

I love the packaging it’s pretty to look at and sturdy I’ve never lost a lid on my handbag. The colours she chose for me are also beautiful, the purple is rich and a great pop of colour. The pink in bright but not so bright I feel daft wearing it day to day, it’s made me braver with pinks, it’s so comfy on and I know it’s not going anywhere I can enjoy the colour without worrying.  If you can get your hands on these you won’t regret it. xxx

Freedom Makeup London ‘Far Away’ Lipstick Collection-not to be missed!

Hello my little buttons!

I was sent these amazing Star Wars themed lipsticks by Freedom Makeup London who launched on June 5th this year (2015) the colours are crazy! When I swatched them I was hypnotised by the uniqueness of the shades, the grey/silver both have different coloured shimmers which sadly my cameras not picking up that well! The purple almost glows and the gold was so opaque it blew my mind. I realise how dramatic I am being but they really were eye catching! Today I tested them all out on my lips:

The first white shade is called ‘storm trooper’ I used a white eyeliner to line my lips and fill them in before applying the lipstick. The formula is so smooth and creamy and applied beautifully. It looks loads better with the White liner underneath to smooth it all over. The gold shade is called ‘space luxe’ this was a joy to use feels like a lip balm rather than a lipstick yet it’s so opaque and metallic in the light it looks awesome! The next shade is ‘sky walker’ same formula as the gold easy and smooth to apply with a beautiful blue/purple tone to it. Next we have ‘the sith’ a dark metallic grey also with blue/purple undertones, I used a black eyeliner to line my lips before applying which really gave it some more dimension. Needed a few layers but built up beautifully. The last shade we have ‘far away’ a metallic purple which I feel speaks for it’s it’s just gorgeous!

Over all I’m amazed these are only £1 each, as well as feeling comfy on the lips they apply beautiful and I’ve never seen colours like it. If this is your thing or you feel like experimenting, go check out http://www.freedommakeuplondon.com

A Whole Face of Makeup for £13? Makeup Gallery at Poundland

Hello my little buttons!

Over the past few weeks I have been on a hunt at my local poundlands to test out their new ‘Makeup Gallery’ range. This blog will be a quick over view of the products I’ve tried and what I think of them!

Here is everything I managed to find, this line already seems popular as for the life of me couldn’t find any black eyeliner or brow pencils! This was bought over several trips as every shop I went in the shelves were half empty. Let’s start with the packaging, for £1 an item it’s clearly not bad. It look sleek and simple. I think the cheapest feeling packaging is definatly the lipstick.

There wasn’t a primer so I used my Elf Mineral  Primer as nothing lasts on me without some sort of base. The Flawless Long Lasting foundation was surprisingly a good colour match and is available in 8 shades. I have combo skin and found it did cling slightly to my dry patches so this wouldn’t be suitable for dry skin. It’s super light coverage, I ended up using my fingers to apply it. It evened out my skin tone and did apply smoothly. Wouldn’t say it’s long lasting, after 5 hours it had definitly moved about. Not the worst foundation I’ve ever used but think you need quite good skin to use this as there’s not much coverage. Next the concealer, think I’ll be passing this on. It didn’t cover my blemishes just make them crispy and dry (gross!!) it did slightly cover my bags but not enough for my liking, it did work as a nice highlight though! Lastly the powder, worked nicely to set my make up, I did need to touch up throughout the day but for £1 that’s usually expected.

Really like this cute little blush! Pretty colour selection, I chose quite a neutral pinky colour. What I liked about this is it goes on quite sheer and you can really build up the colour for your desisted effect. This would be a great blush for a makeup beginner as I think it would be very hard to over do it. It lasted about 4/5 hours before I needed a touch up.

Colour story eyeshadows available in 20 shimmery/matte shades I gotta say there was a beautiful neutral colour selection lots of good crease colours and shimmery lid colours. I chose a matte cream, a matte taupe brown and a purpley moave shimmer with fine glitter. The same as the blush they are blendable but you need to build them up to get the full colour kick. The shimmery shadow on the other hand was pigmented and applied very nicely to the lids. The only disappointing thing was the glitter managed to get into my eyes which irritated them for ages!!!!! I would highly recommend using a primer as after 4/5 hours my eyeshadow had drastically faded.

This mascara was awesome!!! I’ve already mentioned it in my affordable mascara review it adds volume, length, you can really build it up and it holds the curl. So surprised and impressed! As I said before I couldn’t find black so I bought navy blue, wasn’t that wowed by the liner it didn’t last on my water line at all and wasn’t as pigmented as I would of hoped. The liquid liner though was fab, liked the brush and the formula was dark opaque and very easy to work with.

Last but not least lip products, there was a great colour selection from nudes to reds to pinks. The lipgloss has a nice sheer colour to it that looks great on its own as well as over lipstick. It’s rather thick and sticky so if you like more balmy products this might not be for you. The lipstick is lovely, creamy pigmented but not opaque and it didn’t cling to the dry bits on my lips. Lasted an hour or so which I didn’t mind as left a very slight stain so there was still colour there.

Here is the overall look I achieved with these products. I use the brown eyeshadow for my brows as well as eyes. As you can see the concealer really didn’t cover my spots but did reduce the redness around them. I think this range would be great for someone just starting out in makeup as everything was fairly sheer but buildable. As its so inexpensive it would be perfect to get playing with colours and getting used to how to use product and what suits you. I highly recommend the mascara, blush and lipstick. These items would be great to have in your bag on a night out as if they got lost (it happens to us all!!) they’re easily replaceable. I hope you enjoyed this overview, comment below I’d love to hear your thought on this range and if you have any other products in mind you like reviewing!
